At Monolith Tattoo Studio, we’re often asked, “How do I choose a good tattoo artist in Bend, Oregon?” While we may be a little biased, certain factors will always play into your decision when selecting the perfect tattoo artist in Bend for your next piece of inked body art. For many people, the decision to get a tattoo is huge. After all, this will be on your body forever, so above all you want to be happy with it.
In Bend, we’re lucky to be surrounded by a variety of talented tattoo artists who specialize in many different art styles. Whether you want a tattoo in the photo realism style, a watercolor tattoo or something in the stippling/dot-work style, you’ll find it in Bend. It’s been out experience, for the right artist, people will travel to Bend from both near and far. When it comes to choosing a good tattoo artist in Bend, Oregon, we’ve got you covered.
Most often, tattoo style and artistry play a large role choosing a good tattoo artist in Bend. If you have an idea of the style of tattoo you would like, browse the portfolios of several artists who specialize in that particular practice. By browsing the artist’s portfolio, you can determine whether or not the artist’s vision fits yours. While you may have grand visions may lean towards the neo-traditional style, going with an artist who specializes in American tradition may not be the best bet.
If you don’t know exactly what style you want, browse a variety of artist portfolios. At Monolith, we’re home to six resident artists and always welcome guest artists. Keep up on visiting artists and get to know their work. If one of the resident artists doesn’t fit your style, maybe a guest artist will.
One of the best ways to choose a good tattoo artist in Bend, Oregon, comes in referrals. Ask your friends and family who did their tattoos and who they recommend. Odds are, if your loved one has a piece of art they love, they are going to want to tell you all about it and refer you to their favorite artist. Another great aspect to consider when asking your friends for tattoo artist recommendations in Bend, you’ll get to see how their art has weathered the years. Did the art fade? How did it heal? Months or years later, does it still look good and if so, would they still recommend the artist? Your friends and family may be your best allies in choosing a good tattoo artist in Bend, Oregon.
Maybe you just moved to town or maybe you’re just looking near and far for the perfect artist to complete your next tattoo. Whatever the case, online reviews and comments can help you find a good tattoo artist in Bend, Oregon. Go to Google+, go to Yelp, go to Facebook. Read online reviews about a tattoo artist before booking your consultation. This can help you make a sound decision when it comes to permanently applying ink to your skin. Reviews often provide photos and can tell you not only about the quality of the tattoo itself, but also the experience, the shop and the rapport with the artist.
You’ve decided what style of tattoo you want and maybe even narrowed it down to an artist. Before you go through with the tattoo itself, it’s important to make sure you click with the artist. If you’re having a large, multi-session sleeve or back piece done, this will be more of a factor than if you’re getting a small tattoo that’s done in minutes. Book a consultation with the artist, get to know their personality and see if this is someone you want to have tattooing you for hours at a time. If you prefer to sit in silence, it may be nice to know how chatty the artist is ahead of your appointment.

I hadn’t thought about it, but it really could be a good idea to choose a tattoo artist with a great personality. You will have to be sitting with them for a while as they work on your tattoo after all. If you can easily chat with and get along with them then it will make the whole inking process go much smoother.
You are so right!!!
Thanks for the tips on choosing your tattoo artist. Very interesting blog and informative. Great Job!
My grandpa passed away a few months ago, and we were very close. We always went fishing together in the summers, so I am thinking about getting some kind of fish tattoo to remember him. You make a great point that when choosing a tattoo artist I should read online reviews because this will give me an idea of the quality of their work.
I like how you said tattoo style and artistry play a role in choosing a tattoo artist. This is great to know, as I would love to get a tattoo soon. I will look for a tattoo shop near me.
